SWEPT OSCILLATORS

SWO-200

Many measurements require a source. Of course, there is a signal generator (or several) in a well equipped lab, but every so often a regular signal generator is an overkill. The output attenuator, the band switching, the modulation, the regulated output, the power supply. It all takes up room on the bench. And cost money to buy.

To our opinion there are better ways to go if one just want to make waves, so we decided to include sources in the LogProbe line. They each cover one octave, with the high end as a part number. They can be tuned with a built-in potentiometer or from an external voltage. They all require that LogProbe is operating on a 12<V<15 supply, consuming typically an additional 20 mA. About 0.1%/V pushing can be expected, so for narrow band applications, the power need to be fairly clean. To make life easier we also decided to make the tuning knob 'live' even when an external sweep voltage is used. This way one can easily make a narrow sweep (with a small sweep signal) anywhere in the range. For to sweep the full range, simply set the tuning knob to minimum and apply a larger sweep voltage.

The output match is very good, with a minimum Return Loss of 25 dB and often better. It is thus not necessary to use a pad for improved source impedance.

The SWO-200DC is the same oscillator, but with a Directional Coupler built-in. The output from the coupler (directivity ~ 40 dB) goes direct to LogProbe where the reflected signal can be observed. This is a great aid in trimming antennae and filters or what else may need matching.

'Tune for minimum smoke' on the meter!

These are available for 75 W as well, with F-connectors or BNC. Mention on the order if you want 75 W and with what connector. If nothing is mentioned you will get a 50 W device with BNC connector.
